Many Thanks to Riley Troyer, who provided an excellent overview on the fundamentals of hot waxing cross-country skis at our waxing clinic last night. Riley grew up skiing competitively in Fairbanks Alaska, attending multiple National and Junior National championships. While in Fairbanks he worked as the Goldstream Sports Lead Nordic Ski Waxer and Tech for 5 years and as a member of the Toko wax tech team. His presentation included a discussion on the tools and techniques for applying the wax, methods for applying hot wax to the ski, and how to choose which wax to use. He also discussed the utility of the newer liquid spray waxes. Additionally, Riley took the time to put together a recommended list of waxing tools and materials – including notes on their importance – that may be found on Amazon, and offered to field any questions on waxing technique via email.
